Project 2: Special Edition DVD Package Design

For project 2, I am thinking to make special edition DVD package for Disney movie "Aladdin" because this movie has been one of my favorite Disney movies since my childhood.

Aladdin already has its platinum edition (2-disc special edition) and the trilogy, but not the Blu-ray 3-disc (Blu-ray/digital/special feature disc) version. Also, the actual package design of trilogy is not bad, but not as exciting as the stories. I am still not sure which one I should go with, but hopefully, I can make something fun and exciting!

I found this DVD collector's website when I was researching:) I might be helpful for some people:

Quaker's Life Cereal

I decided to redesign Quaker's Life® Cereal package.

It was introduced in 1958. The original slogan for Life® Cereal was “Life® has the most useful protein - ever in a ready-to-eat cereal!”

According to Life®, “You don’t have to be a kid to love the sweet and crunchy goodness of Life® cereal, and you don’t have to be a grown-up to benefit from the whole grain Quaker Oats baked inside each square.”

Life® is good for kids (3-18) and people, who is interested in healthy life in the cities, giving you good nutrition, especially protein, and making your life lively.

Reasons to redesign:
     • Each element is too big. - It needs a hierarchy.
     • Lack of negative space
     • The designs of the logo of “Life“ and “Quaker“ are competing.
     • Hard to understand the message - For kids, health or both?

Good or Bad?

My favorite packaging designs are:
It's a simple, clean and portable water bottle!

They are new Kleenex tissue boxes, called Wedges.
They have very unique, handy and cute shape.

This is a new packaging design for Kraft Miracle Whip Mayonnaise.
I like MW design and a picture of a slice of bread behind.

The designs that I didn't like are:
Too many typefaces, too many pictures (both illustration and picture). I feel it is too packed. I like the idea of logo, though.

I feel that each element such as picture, typeface and color is totally different or not related.
Too many typefaces, difficult to read and complicated picture.
